Proposed B.C. Bill Would Extend Provincial Law to LNG Facilities on Canadian Federal Port Lands
On Monday, British Columbia (B.C.) Deputy Premier and Minister of Natural Gas Development Rich Coleman introduced a bill to the B.C. legislature to regulate the construction, operations and permitting of LNG development on federal port lands. Bill 12, the Federal Port Development Act, would extend provincial authority and application of provincial law to LNG-related development on federal port lands. According to the press release, the LNG export terminals proposed by Petronas affiliate Pacific NorthWest LNG and BG Group affiliate Prince Rupert LNG at the Port of Prince Rupert are expected to be the first of beneficiaries of the bill.
