United States and EU Working Toward Future U.S. LNG Exports
The United States and the European Union have issued a joint statement on the U.S.-EU summit affirming their commitment to cooperation on energy security in Europe, stating in paragraph nine that “[w]e welcome the prospect of U.S. LNG exports in the future since additional global supplies will benefit Europe and other strategic partners.” On this topic, ABC News reports that President Obama stated this week that “[o]nce we have a trade agreement in place, export licenses for projects — for liquefied natural gas destined to Europe — would be much easier, something that’s obviously relevant in today’s geopolitical climate.”
