Alaska Enters Into MOU with Japanese Finance Bank; Asks ConocoPhillips to Resume LNG Exports
The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). According to the press release, JBIC plays a critical role in financing and securing Japan’s LNG imports. The MOU “focuses on opportunities for Japanese companies and JBIC to become involved in resource development projects in Alaska – in particular, a large-volume liquefied natural gas pipeline and export facility.” In a related development, according to an article in Reuters, DNR Commissioner Dan Sullivan has requested that ConocoPhillips resume LNG exports to Japan from its mothballed Kenai, Alaska terminal.
