Sierra Club Files Protest at DOE Regarding Sabine Pass LNG Export Proposal; Submits Letter to CEQ
Sierra Club filed a motion to intervene out of time and protest at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regarding the agency’s conditional grant of LNG export authority to Cheniere on the Sabine Pass LNG application. Sierra Club alleges that FERC’s review of Sabine Pass LNG’s export application did not consider the environmental affects of hydraulic fracturing and requests that DOE consider those affects in its consideration of a final order on Cheniere’s export application.
Sierra Club also sent a letter to the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) requesting that CEQ and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency consider the environmental affects of hydraulic fracturing and provide guidance to DOE on whether to permit increased LNG exports.
