U.S. Senators Discuss Domestic LNG Exports
The U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources held a hearing yesterday to discuss changes in the North American natural gas market that have led energy companies to seek authorization to export U.S. domestic gas as LNG. Reuters reports that several senators expressed concern regarding the potential effects LNG exports could have on U.S. natural gas prices. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy Chris Smith testified at the hearing that the Department has commissioned two studies to analyze likely cumulative economic impacts of authorizing LNG exports from the United States.
