An op-ed carried in the Vancouver Sun argues that if provincial power utility BC Hydro charges large projects proposed in the area, such as the planned Kitimat LNG liquefaction project, the standard industrial rate for electricity, the payments will cover less than half of the expected costs for developing the required new power supply projects. The piece argues that the British Columbia government should step in and require Kitimat LNG and other large industrial power users to pay the full costs of developing new electricity production projects.
