Op-Ed: Fishing and LNG Incompatible in Passamaquoddy Bay

In an op-ed piece carried in the Press Herald (Portland, Maine), an Eastport fisherman argues that commercial fishing and LNG transport are conflicting uses of the Passamaquoddy Bay and that LNG transport through the waterway should not be allowed. The piece notes that Calais LNG has said that it will use Canadian waters for LNG vessel transit in to avoid U.S. fishermen, but the op-ed also states that “everyone knows Canada is not backing down” from the government’s repeated assertions that LNG vessels will not be permitted in these Canadian waters.
