Rhode Island House Passes Measure Adjusting Minimum Clearance Requirement for Ships Transiting Under Bridges
Yesterday the Rhode Island House of Representatives passed HB 7014 requiring 30 feet of clearance between a transiting vessel that is over 150 feet long and carrying a “hazardous material” as its primary cargo and the underside of a bridge. Speaking to the Providence Journal, sponsor of the bill Rep. Douglas W. Gablinkse (D) said that the objective of this legislation is to prevent LNG vessel traffic from reaching the planned Weaver’s Cove LNG facility in Mt. Hope Bay.
