Editorial Criticizes Bridge Clearance Bill

An editorial carried by the Providence Journal (R.I.) criticizes a bill (S. 2125) under consideration in the Rhode Island General Assembly that would require 25 feet of clearance under the Mt. Hope Bridge for marine vessels 150 feet or longer. The piece, arguing this bill is designed to impede progress on the Weaver’s Cove LNG project, notes the exemplary safety record of the LNG shipping industry and that the common clearance standard at U.S. and international ports is between one and three feet.
