Downeast LNG President Argues that LNG Traffic Through Canadian Waters Is “Innocent Passage”
Downeast LNG President Dean Girdis told the Telegraph-Journal that he believes that LNG vessels destined for U.S.-based regasification terminals eventually will be able to transit Canadian waters in Head Harbour Passage under the doctrine of “innocent passage.” However, the Canadian government has argued that the waterway in question is Canadian territorial waters and that claims of “innocent passage” do not apply.
