Maryland Denies Water Quality Certification for AES Sparrows Point LNG
The Maryland Department of the Environment denied water quality certification for AES Sparrows Point LNG, citing, among other concerns, a lack of information on where the dredging spoils will be deposited as well as the impact of dredging on aquatic wildlife. Specifically, the Maryland Daily Record reports that the state is seeking more definitive plans for the spoils as no buyer for the 3.7 million cubic yards of dredged material has been contracted. The MDE has said it would reconsider issuing the certification if AES provides the requested information.
