House Passes Measure to Designate Taunton River ‘Wild and Scenic’
On Wednesday the U.S. House of Representatives approved an omnibus federal lands package that would designate part of the Taunton River as “wild and scenic” under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, effectively ending the bid by Weaver’s Cove LNG to site a regasification facility there. An identical measure already has been approved by the Senate; the bill now heads to the White House for President Obama’s signature. The Taunton Gazette (Taunton, Mass.) has more details.
Earlier, a spokesman for Weaver’s Cove told the Herald News (Fall River, Mass.) that local support for the proposed terminal was growing.
