The Jamestown Foundation, a Washington, D.C., think tank, offers an analysis of Russia’s plan to develop a substantial position in the U.S. LNG market. The Foundation’s piece focuses on the efforts of Russia’s national gas company, Gazprom, to develop the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea and potentially export gas from Shtokman to the United States as LNG. Details also are provided on ExxonMobil’s offer to Gazprom of a stake in the BlueOcean LNG deepwater port proposed for the U.S. East Coast.
