TransCanada Reacts to Gazprom’s Interest in Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline
Tony Palmer, TransCanada’s vice president in charge of Alaskan development, told the Calgary Herald that his company has not been approached yet by Gazprom regarding its interest in the TransCanada natural gas pipeline proposed for Alaska. However, the Herald reports that a Gazprom official said he expects talks with TransCanada will commence in the near future.
In the comments released with its daily LNG data, NATS [subscription required] examines Gazprom’s possible motivation for its interest in the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline project. NATS speculates that Gazprom may be embracing a long-term strategy of eventually supplying the North American gas market with supplies from northeastern Russia via a pipeline across the Bering Strait.
