State of New York Announces Opposition to Broadwater LNG Terminal Project
Governor David Paterson (D-N.Y.) announced this afternoon that the New York State Department of State opposes Broadwater Energy’s application to build an LNG import terminal in Long Island Sound, which New York had been reviewing under the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA). According to Newsday, Gov. Paterson focused his remarks on alternatives to the Broadwater LNG project, including additional pipeline capacity and terminals in other locations. John Hritcko, regional project director for Broadwater, said “[t]he regulatory process provides Broadwater a number of options going forward and we intend to fully review the decision and findings, then evaluate the project’s next steps.”
