Late last week Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (R) announced that only one of the five applications submitted to transport North Slope natural gas to markets in southern Alaska met all the requirements of the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act. Gov. Palin said that the public comment period for the remaining gas pipeline proposal, submitted by TransCanada, would open on January 5, 2008. The Anchorage Daily News offers additional details.
Separately, Platts LNG Daily reports that exporting some of this gas to the Lower 48 States or to Asia remains a possibility, though TransCanada’s primary plan includes a pipeline connection in Alberta to transport the gas to market. [Subscription required]
