Mass. State Senate Approves Measure Restricting Siting of New LNG Terminals
South Coast Today reports that last night the Massachusetts Senate unanimously passed an energy bill that includes an amendment restricting the siting of new LNG projects in the state. The measure, proposed by state Sen. Joan M. Menard, prohibits construction of a new LNG facility within one mile of a school, hospital, or nursing home. According to the publication, this measure would be another obstacle for the Weaver’s Cove LNG terminal planned for Fall River, Mass., if adopted by the state House and approved by Gov. Deval Patrick. The energy bill also includes an ocean management plan aimed at LNG terminals in state waters, as well as wind and tidal energy projects.
