EIA Estimates 35% Increase in LNG Imports Over 2006

In its Short-Term Energy Outlook released yesterday, the EIA estimated that U.S. LNG imports for 2007 will total approximately 790 Bcf, a 35% increase over last year’s total. The Outlook predicts a total import volume of 940 Bcf for 2008 based on expanded global liquefaction capacity, but cautions that project delays or market conditions “could temper the number of spot cargoes directed to U.S. ports next year.”
