Disabled Container Ship Docks at Elba Island LNG Terminal, Highlighting Security Concerns
A Panamanian-flagged vessel became disabled and drifted aground last week near the Elba Island LNG import terminal; it was towed to a dock at the LNG facility. The Savannah Morning News reports that a security consultant has argued against allowing such ships to come so close to the LNG storage tanks, suggesting that a “Trojan horse”-type attack could have crippled the facility. However, the USCG captain of the port, Cmdr. David Murk, told the Morning News that “it didn’t cross my mind that it was an intentional act,” emphasizing that the vessel underwent multiple security checks.
