Congress Revives Environmental Obstacle for Weaver’s Cove LNG

Massachusetts federal legislators have renewed a push to include certain parts of the lower Taunton River as a part of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. This legislative action might preclude dredging the river for LNG vessel traffic, preventing LNG supplies from reaching the proposed Weaver’s Cove LNG import terminal. A spokesperson for Weaver’s Cove Energy called the proposal an “abuse of the act,” and said that the proposed terminal site is neither wild nor scenic, but rather “a heavily industrialized waterfront.” The Associated Press (carried via the Boston Globe) provides further details.
