Canada Releases Consultants’ Report on LNG Vessel Traffic in Head Harbour Passage
Canada has made public its report on LNG vessel traffic compiled by SENES Consultants. The report supports Canada’s reasons for prohibiting LNG vessels from traversing the Head Harbour Passage, stating that transit “involves a considerable level of risk,” particularly due to maneuvers near the Old Sow whirlpool, “where the risk factor is approximately double the average risk for the whole transit.” However, the study also notes that these risks are manageable with mitigation measures, though mitigation steps would increase costs and create “considerable operational limitations.” See Platts LNG Daily [subscription required] for further coverage.
