Virginia Energy Plan Identifies Hampton Roads Region as Attractive LNG Expansion Target
Governor Timothy Kaine (D-Va.) announced his comprehensive energy plan on Wednesday. The plan noted the need to improve the state’s gas pipeline and storage infrastructure and recommended that Virginia “carefully consider support for projects to diversify its natural gas supplies, such as new LNG terminals and increasing pipeline capacity.” The plan specifically identified the Hampton Roads region, near Newport News, Va., as a potential location for new LNG import and storage facilities. The plan says, “Virginia has the geography and the market to make the Hampton Roads area an attractive expansion target for both new LNG storage and import.” The Washington Post provides additional coverage on the state’s energy plan.
