Debate Continues in New Jersey Regarding LNG Proposals
The Star-Ledger (New Jersey) reports that public officials, industry representatives, and private citizens continue to debate the merits of LNG import facilities in the New Jersey area, particularly the Atlantic Sea Island Group’s Safe Harbor Energy project that proposes building an artificial island and LNG terminal approximately 13 miles south of Long Island, N.Y. U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) opposes the project on environmental grounds, saying, “You’d have all that material dumped in the ocean. We’ve made too much progress. We don’t want to drift back and have it used for industrial purposes again.”
