Scientists: LNG Carbon Emissions Could Exceed Emissions from Advanced Coal Plants
Researchers with Carnegie Mellon University will release an article in Environmental Science and Technology next week calculating that the total lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions from an LNG-fired power plant could exceed the emissions from an advanced coal power plant by up to 35%. One of the report’s authors said that investment in LNG infrastructure may keep gas prices low, but “ultimately locks us into certain technologies that make it harder for us to change paths in an increasingly carbon-constrained world.”
