Critic Faults Elba Island Expansion EIS

A local representative of the Sierra Club is criticizing FERC’s Final Environmental Impact Statement on the Elba Island LNG expansion project, the Savannah Morning News reports. Specifically, the Sierra Club claims that the report does not address the concern that vessel traffic on the Savannah River could double over the next ten years if a proposed industrial port is constructed along the river. Also, the Sierra Club cites the risks of LNG operations, evidenced by an incident in 2006 when an LNG carrier broke away from its mooring, though no LNG was spilled.
