MARAD Announces Agreement with Woodside on U.S. Flag LNG Vessels
U.S. Maritime Administrator Sean T. Connaughton announced today that Woodside Natural Gas has committed to employ two U.S. flag LNG regasification vessels and U.S. crews and officers to service its OceanWay LNG terminal proposed for offshore Southern California. The vessels will be used in mid-ocean ship-to-ship transfer operations and then to regasify and offload the gas at the OceanWay receiving terminal. As a result of this commitment, MARAD will grant the OceanWay LNG proposal priority status in its regulatory review as required by the Deepwater Port Act. The OceanWay LNG agreement follows similar agreements reached with Excelerate Energy and Suez North America, but is unique in its commitment to use U.S. flag regasification vessels.
