Study: Atlantic Alternative to Broadwater Possible
An independent study commissioned by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority concludes that wind and wave conditions do not preclude an alternative LNG import terminal from being built offshore south of Long Island instead of in the Sound, where the Broadwater terminal would be located. John Hritcko, Broadwater’s senior vice president, responded that his company’s internal investigation before choosing the Broadwater site found the Atlantic sites to raise additional environmental problems and to require constructing a new gas pipeline through populated areas.
