Gazprom Seeks Stakes in Canadian LNG Projects
Rabaska LNG is negotiating a deal to purchase LNG from Russian state-owned producer Gazprom and the agreement could allow Gazprom to obtain an ownership interest in Rabaska’s proposed LNG project near Quebec City. Gazprom is also in negotiations to supply LNG for Petro-Canada’s Gros-Cacouna LNG project. Despite these negotiations, one energy analyst expressed skepticism that Gazprom would be able to supply all the LNG required, asserting that Russian gas production may be entering a period of decline and Gazprom could face difficulties meeting its current obligations. The Globe and Mail provides further details.
