Canadian Official Supports “Over-the-Top” Natural Gas Pipeline

Northwest Territories Mines Minister Brendan Bell said yesterday that he supports a single natural gas pipeline that would ship supplies from both the Mackenzie Basin and northern Alaska to consumers in the United States and southern Canada. Trans-Canada Corp. has shelved plans for the pipeline because the project was not considered economical given the lack of government funding and increasing availability of LNG in North America. Bell, however, believes that a combined pipeline would keep down costs and diversify the natural gas market. The Canadian Press provides further details, carried by the Edmonton Journal.
