New York Lawmakers Hear Findings of GAO Report
The congressional Government Accountability Office (GAO) presented to local officials in Suffolk County, New York, the findings from its report on potential hazards facing LNG terminals. A representative of Broadwater LNG stated that the report’s most important finding was that “a catastrophic event with LNG was unlikely.” A Suffolk County legislator, on the other hand, concluded that nightmare scenarios are a possibility and more study is required. The GAO plans to publish two additional studies, one due this summer and the other next year. Newsday.com provides further coverage.
