Congressional Hearing in May to Focus on Broadwater Safety and Security
A congressional hearing has been scheduled for May 7, 2007, in Farmingville, New York, to address security issues surrounding Broadwater LNG’s proposed terminal in Long Island Sound. The field hearing, called by the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, will deal with how the Coast Guard intends to provide protection to the terminal as well as to LNG vessels traveling to and from the terminal. Newsday also reports that the Long Island Power Authority, a potential customer for Broadwater’s gas, has distanced itself from the Long Island Association’s conditional endorsement of Broadwater earlier this month.
