U.S. Senators Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) and Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) have introduced S. 1174, a bill designed to give affected states the right to veto applications to construct or expand LNG terminals. The measure would amend the Natural Gas Act to prohibit FERC from approving any onshore proposal “without the express concurrence” of each affected state. Under the Deepwater Port Act, adjacent coastal states currently hold veto power over offshore terminal sites. The Baltimore Sun provides press coverage. [Free registration required]
