Los Alamos National Laboratory has announced that it has licensed its thermoacoustic natural gas liquefaction technology to Swift LNG for commercial production. According to a press release issued Monday, the thermoacoustic natural gas liquefier “converts heat into sound waves and then converts the hot sound wave energy to cold refrigeration using highly pressurized helium.” The technology may be used to capture natural gas that would otherwise be flared off or released into the atmosphere.
