Canadian Government Reiterates Opposition to LNG Vessel Transit

Canadian Minister of Veterans Affairs Greg Thompson affirmed that Canada remains steadfast in its opposition to the transit of LNG tankers en route to the proposed LNG terminals in Maine, despite a letter from the U.S. State Department insisting that all vessels are afforded the right of innocent passage through the Canadian waters of Head Harbour Passage. “When we take the position … saying no to the transport of liquefied natural gas ships through Head Harbor Passage, we’re doing it because we believe it’s not a safe location, it’s not a smart location, and we are doing it for all of the right reasons,” said Thompson.  Read more in the Bangor Daily News.
