Alaskan Legislators Request AG Inquiry Into Extension of LNG Exporting License
Alaska state lawmakers have introduced resolutions that ask the state attorney general to determine whether a two-year extension of ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil Corp.’s federal permit to export LNG from Cook Inlet to Asian markets is in the best interest of local consumers and whether termination of the license would result in lower gas prices in the state. “In the face of a looming gas shortage, we want to be sure that we do not export today the fuel we will need for home heating in the near future,” said Rep. Berta Gardner (D-Anchorage), who co-sponsored House Joint Resolution No. 13. Its companion Senate resolution is here. The Alaska Journal of Commerce provides local press coverage.
The Alaska Journal of Commerce also reports that interested parties have until April 9 to comment on the application for the extension.
