US Coast Guard Adopts Interim Security Zone for Elba LNG Terminal
In response to the completion of two new LNG tanker berths at the Elba Island LNG terminal, the USCG has issued an interim rule with request for comments to establish a permanent security zone. The new rule follows an incident in June 2006 when a sailboat entered the LNG slip. Although no tanker was present in the berth at the time of the incident, and no harm resulted, the USCG recognized “a potential vulnerability” and issued the interim rule to address the concern. Comments on the rule are due by March 12, 2007. The notice of the interim rule is available in yesterday’s issue of the Federal Register.
