Suffolk County Legislature Approves More Funds for Broadwater Legal Battle
Suffolk County lawmakers yesterday passed a bill, sponsored by Legis. Wayne R. Horsley (D-Babylon), to allocate another $100,000 to help finance the legal battle against Broadwater Energy’s proposed LNG terminal in Long Island Sound. The legislature previously spent $100,000 in 2005 to retain a law firm to represent Suffolk County in the regulatory review process. Newsday reports that Horsley is concerned that securing the facility will “have the Sound turned into an armed camp.” Broadwater Energy senior vice president John Hritcko Jr. criticized Horsley’s remarks as a “scare tactic.”
