Perry, Maine Residents Approve Recall Ordinance Possibly Rooted in Quoddy Bay LNG Dispute
Residents of Perry, Maine approved a measure that would allow local citizens to recall elected officials. According to The Bangor Daily News, some residents believe that the ordinance stems from a disagreement among Perry selectmen regarding Quoddy Bay’s proposed LNG terminal. Selectman David Turner, who is in favor of the LNG project, criticized fellow selectman and LNG critic Jeanne Guisinger’s support for the ordinance. “Now her efforts – and those of her single-issue allies – include this recall petition,” he said. Voters in Perry also approved a measure allowing the town to receive reimbursements from Quoddy Bay to cover the town’s legal expenses related to review of the proposed project.
