BHP Billiton and Former CPUC President Disagree on LNG Interchangeability
The Malibu Times yesterday reported on statements from Loretta Lynch, former president of the California Public Utilities Commission, alleging that demand for LNG is being exaggerated and that the higher heat content of LNG would endanger appliances and necessitate retrofitting California’s natural gas pipelines. BHP Billiton spokesperson Kathi Hann denied the allegations and responded that LNG regasified at its proposed Cabrillo Port terminal will meet local utilities’ pipeline specifications. Rory Cox of Pacific Environment also said that in the case of Cabrillo Port, “hot gas would not be an issue.”
