USCG and MARAD Issue Environmental Assessment for Main Pass Energy Hub

The Main Pass Energy Hub LNG terminal featuring closed-loop regasification technology will not create significant environmental impacts, according to an Environmental Assessment and a Draft Finding of No Significant Impact issued last week by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Maritime Administration. Project developer Freeport-McMoRan amended its initial application after Gov. Kathleen Blanco rejected the project’s open-loop design, citing environmental concerns. The Coast Guard also has established a schedule for comments on the EA, leading up to a final decision expected by Jan. 3, 2007. Business Wire carries the press release.
