In a 6-1 vote, the city council of Newport, R.I. agreed on Wednesday to send a letter to the state’s Department of Environmental Management in opposition to the proposed dredging of Mount Hope Bay in preparation for the FERC-approved Weaver’s Cove LNG terminal. In its letter, the council also requested that the DEM schedule a public hearing on the proposed dredging. The Providence Journal has the story.
