Lynn City Council Drafts Measure to Bolster Security at LNG Facility
In the wake of a security lapse last month at a KeySpan LNG storage facility in Lynn, Mass., the City Council has prepared a draft ordinance setting forth certain security measures that LNG facilities located in the city must implement in order to secure a flammable liquids license, which must be renewed annually. The council’s proposal would direct facility operators to report a security breach to local law enforcement officials within 24 hours and also would require the LNG facility’s internal security system be linked to the Lynn Police Department. Also, at least two employees would be required to monitor the premises at all times. A draft of the ordinance was issued this week and will be discussed at an upcoming City Council meeting. The Daily Item has the story.
