Fall River Mayor Opposes Eminent Domain
Fall River Mayor Edward M. Lambert, Jr. reaffirmed his position that he will not invoke eminent domain to seize the land Weaver’s Cove Energy plans to utilize for its LNG terminal. According to The Herald News, however, as a strategic matter Lambert has decided not to veto the eminent domain resolution approved by the City Council on Sept. 26; instead, he will take no action because “[t]he resolution has no more practical effect at this point, except to be a suggestion.” The mayor previously has stated his position that the use of eminent domain is a tactic of last resort.
