Fall River City Council Approves Eminent Domain Resolution
The Fall River City Council on Sept. 26 approved a resolution calling on the city to seize the proposed site for the Weaver’s Cove LNG terminal by eminent domain. Council President William F. Whitty, who introduced the resolution, disputed Mayor Edward M. Lambert, Jr.’s claim that taking the land using eminent domain could cost the city $50 to $70 million, saying instead that the property was worth $6.3 million. According to yesterday’s Herald News, the resolution will be sent to Lambert’s office and he will have 10 days to sign it, veto it, or take no action and let it go into effect on its own accord.
