CPUC Endorses Higher Wobbe Limit to Accommodate Additional Natural Gas Supplies
In an effort to reconcile the need to increase natural gas supplies with safety, reliability and environmental concerns, the California Public Utilities Commission yesterday issued an order approving a maximum Wobbe limit of 1385 for the San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Co. service territories, which Commissioner Rachelle Chong said will allow California to “attract more sources of gas needed to meet our greenhouse gas goals.” The order rejected a state-wide gas quality standard and the establishment of regional standards, and also addressed other issues, such as interconnection and operational balancing agreements for LNG providers.
