Following the release of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Waterway Suitability Report for the proposed Broadwater LNG terminal, several Connecticut politicians convened yesterday at Hammonasset Beach State Park to voice opposition to the project. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said that Connecticut may have leverage in the terminal’s approval process because, according to the Coast Guard’s analysis, some LNG vessels will traverse Connecticut state waters. A spokesperson for Broadwater affirmed that the company has committed throughout the process to supplement existing emergency management resources, including firefighting capabilities.
