Bahamian Prime Minister Promises Regulations; Cat Cay Residents Call For LNG Referendum
According The Bahama Journal, Bahamian Prime Minster Perry Christie yesterday announced that his administration will not enter a heads of agreement with AES to build the proposed terminal until regulations are put in place to govern an LNG industry in the Bahamas.
In related news, Cat Cay Club President Lance Mortensen and other residents who believe that LNG development will threaten the nation’s environment and tourism industry are calling for a public referendum on LNG. “The message to the government should be very simple, and that’s that they should go out to the Bahamian population as a whole and ask the question whether LNG is really good for The Bahamas,” Mortensen said.
