Fall River To Appeal Weaver’s Cove Environmental Ruling

The Herald News today reports that the City of Fall River plans to appeal former Massachusetts state Secretary of Environmental Affairs Stephen R. Pritchard’s decision to allow Hess LNG to proceed with the permitting process for its Weaver’s Cove LNG terminal. The city yesterday issued a press release detailing reasons for opposing Pritchard’s ruling, including Hess LNG’s failure to provide accurate information about potential impacts of the terminal and viable alterative locations to site the facility. Hess LNG project spokesman James Grasso refuted the city’s claims, asserting that the company “provided all the information requested and then some.” The city must file its formal appeal within 60 days of the secretary’s August 1, 2006 decision.
