Bradwood Landing Donation Criticized
Opponents of the Bradwood Landing LNG terminal have criticized NorthernStar’s $100,000 donation to the Wahkiakum County Community Foundation on Thursday, saying that the LNG developer is trying to buy support for the project. According to The Daily Astorian, NorthernStar plans to donate $100,000 each year until the terminal is built and $500,000 each year it is operational, and will participate in the management of the fund. A Bradwood Landing official says the community received the donation because its location in Washington prevents its receiving the benefit of taxes paid in Oregon.
A Seaside, Ore., resident has called The Daily Astorian’s coverage of the donation a “smear campaign,” praising Bradwood Landing for putting “their money where their mouth is” and indicating that lack of jobs in the area is driving residents away. Her op-ed is here.
