Lawyer Claims Sparrows Point Would Violate Cleanup Agreement

According to The Baltimore Sun, an attorney representing Dundalk residents has said in a letter to the U.S. Attorney that construction of AES’ Sparrows Point project would violate a 1998 cleanup agreement between the federal government and now-dissolved Bethlehem Steel, which had owned the site. The letter also indicates that the current property owner is performing unrelated work in violation of the cleanup agreement. However, AES says “that the shipyard was removed from the consent decree,” and county inspectors found no work in progress at the site. [Access to archived articles requires a fee.]
